A New Start

Last night Kyara did not sleep at all. Not one hour, not 30 minutes. I was up with her all night as she stormed like crazy. I could not get her settled for anything. It was a hard, long night. Poor Skylar grabbed a hot toaster this morning and has burn blisters on her palm.

That was the bad, on to the good...

Kyara had success at therapy today. This afternoon, she held her head up for 8 seconds by herself! Well, Dan controlled her head until she started to support it, then he let go and she held it there by herself! That is improvement! Yeah!! Also the storming is much better today. She is much more relaxed and not nearly as tight. Ok, now lets get a move on with this therapy!

She has been asleep since about 6:30 tonight, so about 3 hours. I hope it is not a nap and that she will sleep through the night. Her heart rate is much lower than I have seen it in quite a while even while she is awake, so maybe the doctors have found the right combo of drugs to help her. Once we have all of this under control, she will be calmer during the day for therapy.

Kassey has started to walk. She took 5-6 steps today, but thinks it is a riot to fall down when you want her to show you! It is a game, we stand her up, she falls down...laughs, we stand her up, she sits down...laughs, and on and on.... She gets a kick out of it!

So, Bunny is going to spend the night with Kyara. I pray for a good night sleep for them both. I am going back to the RMH to get some shut-eye and I will be back first thing in the morning. Therapy starts early, so hang on to your hats, we are pushing forward!

Hooray, Kyara!! Thank you Lord, one more prayer answered. Genie, you sound refreshed and ready to face what lies ahead. I'm sure there will be 'bumps' ahead, but you and Kyara have proven time and time again you will face these mountains and your faith shall move them. Keep up the good work.

Poor Skylar, I hope her hand is feeling better. Tell her Megan sent her a Valentine, so be on the look out for it.

Everyone in the family seems to be doing their part during this trying time. Even Kassey, she is a blessing, there to bring you joy and lighten your heart. What a silly girl!

Gunars,
You are an example of what a real Daddy is. You have been faced with some VERY hard decisions and some seemingly impossible choices. You always seem to make the right decision and keep your family's best interest first in your life. You make God and everyone who knows you proud. All three of your daughters will see you as no less than their Hero. There will be brighter days ahead.

You are always on our minds and we will keep you in our prayers.

Kyara is certainly moving forward!! Kudos for her!! Kudos for you, Genie, for keeping everyone informed about any and all developments. Kudos for Kassey for taking her first baby steps (with her butt, nonetheless!)... these are certainly all good news (except for poor Skylar's palm burns), but that too shall pass... Hoping you all get a good night's rest...

Great News! Keep it up Kyara. your strength is AMAZING! You make us proud every day.

We are so sorry to hear about Skylar's burns. Please give her a special hug and kiss from us. We were talking today about what an incredible BIG sister she is.

Way to go Kassey! You continue to keep everyone entertained. You keep us all smiling.

We got to see Gunars today at school and we are just so proud of him. Though we know it hurts, he was headed off to work to continue to take care of all of his GIRLS!

Genie, please get some rest. You are incredible and we absolutely love hearing from you. It is wonderful that you are so honest in your blogs. This journey is difficult, but those of us that love you feel so connected because you do share so much with us each day. Thank you!

Please tell Bunny that we appreciate her too! She is very strong too! We see where you guys get it.

Tonight we pray for all of you and we pray especially for Gunars while he is home desperately wanting to get back to his family. We are also praying for Kyara to continue to do well with her therapy, and we know she will. God loves her and will be right there with His baby girl each step of the way.

This weekend I (Mrs. Carlisle) had the privilege of working with fourth and fifth graders at a church retreat. The scripture that they were memorizing was this:

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

Of course you know Kyara was on my mind all weekend and especially as we memorized this scripture! I know God has big plans for her. He never intends for harm to come to any of His children. He wants joy and prosperity for all of us. He wants us to be successful, to thrive, and to grow. We know that our hope is in Christ Jesus and He sees our future for now, on earth ,as well as throughout all eternity. He knows His plan for how He is going to help Kyara through this season of her life, and we will all be blessed once again by his Amazing Grace as we all have front row seats!

Please let us know what we can do to help any of you.

We love you guys!

I LOVE it! "We're pushing forward," and ain't NOBODY getting in her way! So happy to hear the enthusiasm! We'll hope the sleep helps her even more!

I can just picture Kassey's little antics. I love that stage when they are just learning to walk--how sweet! If our boys were there, they would be ALL over that! What a little ham... she certainly works the crowd, doesn't she?

Ouch! I hope Skylar's burn is not so bad. That's the very worst when you burn your HAND. Joseph grabbed a hot charcoal this past summer and had a puffy finger for quite a while.

You guys are doing great and we're sending lots of prayers your way!

Love,
Michelle

Ok... so it's safe to say that you had a very ... full day yesterday. Sorry to hear that Kyara had some rough moments, but WOW did she make up for them! That's very exciting! Can't wait to hear about her progress today!
As for Skylar... poor girl... OUCH.. that has to hurt... hopefully she'll get better soon...
And Kassey... she seems to be the comic relief you need right now... babies have that gift don't they?
Hang in there, you're doing great! All of you!

Well you don't know who I am, but your dad used to work for Paccar Financial, which is our finance company here at Cherokee Kenworth. He came in yesterday and filled us in on Kyara's progress. I didn't know a whole lot about the circumstances until I decided to look at your care page. Wow!! What amazing people you guys are. I know the trials and tribulations that have been presented to you must beat you down, but you seem to hold it together so well. I can hear your faith in God through your words, and for this, all will be fine. I'm so proud of all the progress little Kyara has made and will continue to make. I hope Skylar's hand gets better, and I hope Kassey continues to bring you smiles. I just wanted to drop in and tell you what an inspiration your story is, and that you and your family are in my prayers.
