MRI and EEG Results

Kyara had a MRI done this afternoon. The doctors found evidence that she had ischemia (injury) to parts of her brain due to the lack of oxygen during her cardiac arrest yesterday. She also had a mild seizure while having the MRI test done. The doctors decided to hook her up on an EEG for 24 hours to watch what is happening. She has had 2 more mild seizures tonight. The doctors have put her on seizure medications, but it takes time for it to work. The seizures she is having are not like those you imagine with her thrashing around everywhere. Actually, what happens is that her eyes roll back and to the side, her legs stiffen and look like they are tapping on a gas pedal and she looks like she is coughing. Her previous EEG results from this morning had normal brain waves, but they were sluggish. The doctors believe the medications may be the reason the results are sluggish. The doctors said this is not good or bad news. It is a baseline of information. The true test will be how Kyara responds over the next couple of days and weeks.

After the MRI, the doctors decided to put Kyara on an EEG for 24 hours to monitor her brain activity and watch for seizure activity. She had a couple of "seizures" tonight, but the neurologists said they are not actually seizures. There is not any brain activity that shows seizure activity. He believes it is muscular contractions called clonus. We are still waiting to hear more information about this.

Update: Tonight while the nurse was suctioning her nose (she had a TON of boogers!), Kyara reached up like she was trying to stop him. It seems the noxious stimuli bothered her enough to get her moving some.

We are so thankful for all of the support you are providing for us. I have read every one of the posts and comments and I bawl with each one. I am not bawling out of sadness, but out of love and thanks for the love and prayers that you are blessing Kyara and the rest of our family with. We are still in need of some major prayers. Kyara is still in a coma.

This makes miracle #2 for Kyara and we can thank God that His plan for Kyara's life has destiny and purpose. We speak blessings and complete healing over her precious body. That's wonderful news! Any movement or response is a BIG sign of encouragement. What a fiesty little angel. Come on Kyara, you can do this!!! Reach down deep and find that determination, open your eyes and show us that beautiful smile.

I put out a prayer request with silent unity, they are a group of people that pray 24hrs a day. My mom always called for Paul every time something was going on with him. They pray 30 days straight. I have my family praying and my grandma called her church. Kyara is in all of our hearts and we are all praying for her to get well and for strength for both you and Gunars. I know how bad you are feeling right now and just pray that God soothes your hearts and brings your baby back. I know only he can and WILL.

Genie and Gunars,
I worked for two years in FL w/ a student who had been in a coma for several weeks. He had been in a serious car crash and had suffered a lack of O2, and had a tramatic brain injury. Many long hours of worry for family, friends,and teachers-we all worried what his future would hold.
In Sept., he entered middle school with his peers. Like Kyara, he's a spunky fighter who just never quit.

I find it difficult to find the right words of comfort ... I believe that God is good and for whatever reason, this is in his plan and this test of patience is for His glory. It breaks my heart to try and understand what your family is going through. Kyara is a strong little girl and your faith in God and in her is what will pull her through this. Genie and Janis:

The fact that Kyara reacted to the suction is FABULOUS news... I have a friend who tells me all the time (in Spanish) "Dios Tarda Pero No se Olvida" translated means: God takes his time but never forgets. He's watching Kyara carefully and I'm sure that he will bring her back stronger and healthier than ever. I fully believe she has a purpose here on this Earth and He is going to make sure she is here to live it.

My heart is with you, Carlos' heart is with you... and we continue to pray for your strength, for Kyara's rapid recovery and for Skylar and Kassey's health and well being...

I found you and your blog via Megan Pinkston's FB status. WOW. First of all, your little girl is nothing short of AMAZING. She definitely has her mommy's strength and will. She is so lucky to have you as a mother, and I know this strength will continue to sustain her. As for you, I am so proud of the woman you have become. I left a message on Gunar's phone last night, and because I was so nervous and did not know what to say, I ended the message saying "bye babe" when I meant to say "bye dude" or "bye bro", but it still is kind of appropriate in that my love and heart goes out to all of you. I went to school with the Dzenis family in Venezuela and through time one looses touch.. I found out what was going on through facebook and wanted to express my and my family's support. We too have 3 amazing kids and could not imagine going through the pain you are in. All I can say is that strength comes in numbers so I am joining the force and praying for your beautiful Little Kyara. God performs miracles and that is what I will be praying for.
I hope some day to reconnect for happier reasons but for now know that a long los friend has you in her prayers and in her heart. Your story has touched me in a way I cant describe.
