Good News and Bad News

Which way should I start... Well, I am going to give the bad news and end on a happy note.

My grandfather (Bunny's dad) passed away today. He was an amazing man. He will be greatly missed. I love you, Papa!

The good news... Kyara has had another salivagram and a swallow study in the past two days. She did good on both! Yea! Sitting up really helped! Today she was given a few bites of applesauce in the study. Although she aspirated a tiny amount, she did great with most of it. The speech therapist feels it is safe to begin giving her more tastes (applesauce, yogurt, pudding, etc) to help her relearn to eat!!! YEA!! The only question now is her stomach and how it empties. We will cross that bridge as we get to it, though.

I also met with the communications person today and she was very helpful. We are purchasing a few devices and books to have at home. The books explain ways to properly use the switches and devices to best help Kyara. This will help give Kyara a voice again. She has been doing better and better at hitting a big button to communicate her wants.

So, although I am very sad Papa's passing, I know he is looking down on us and smiling from heaven. He is at peace and that is very comforting to me. And today was a good day from Kyara's stand point.

Genie,
Looks like that precious princess is "getting in the swing of things". So glad that she is responding to the switch for communication. Our hope word today is CRAZY. (Bet you thought I'd say compassionate or caring our courageous!) I chose crazy because that describes how hectic and nuts your life is and about to be! It may even describe how you feel some days! I've learned through the years that my "craziness" is God's tool to help me cope with a variety of situations! If you feel a bit "whacky", know it is God's hand touching you!!! I am so sad about Peggy's daddy. Give her a huge hug for me. Tell her this---when I prayed this morning, I asked my Mama and Daddy to go find him in heaven and show him around.....See I am a little crazy, but God understands! I love you more than words can say. Love, Wink

Genie,
Sorry to hear about your Grandfather, I know he is totally at peace and in a new body now. Even if he could, the earth is not where he would choose to be now. No sorrows, no worries, only singing and praising God for all eternity. Even with that said, loved ones here will always miss his presence. News about Kyara is great! Recovery and the peeling away of what was destroyed is being re-routed. Slowly, but surely. We love you all and continue to lift up your entire family before our heavenly Father. This includes our "Spokane" sunday school class too. Love, Spokane

Kyara, You dont know me but I was your Grandpa Screws student back in the late 1980's and that is how I found your care page! I am actually crying for all that you have been through, and for all the pain that you are feeling and for all the help that you will need in the future. My heart goes out to you and your beautiful family. Please stay strong for yourself, but also for your brother and sister, they need you now and will need you so much in the future! You need them too! There's nothing like the love of a brother and sister. Your mommy and daddy are being strong for you so that you can heal and grow and live a normal life. All they want is for you to have a normal healthy life. You can do it! I know you can! You are so beautiful, I just want to kiss those cute cheeks of yours. My arms around you, giving you lots of hugs from Columbus Ga, you take care of you!! Stephanie Hoover (formerly Bolin)

Genie,
I am so sorry to hear about your Papa. He raised a wonderful daughter (Bunny) so I know he had to be an amazing Dad! We are still thinking of you all everyday and praying all the time. Please take care of yourself during this time of transition and loss, you need to be pampered too. Give our best to Bunny, and we will be praying for an easy and uneventful move home for Kyara. We'll see you soon.
Love and friendship

Genie,

Our condolences to you, your mom, and your family on the passing of your grandpa. We know he'll be looking down on you and helping your family along as Kyara recovers. It sounds like she is doing great! I'm glad they decided to keep her a little longer for the swallow study. What great news! She deserves lots and LOTS of pudding, ice cream, chocolate mousse, and so do you!

We are praying for a quick discharge on Monday and for the transition to home to go smoothly. Keep us updated, and know you are always in our thoughts and prayers.

Love,

Michelle

I am sorry to hear of the passing of your "papa". However, I think it is WONDERFUL news about Kyara! So much progress! I hope the eating and communicating continues to progress. Best of luck to all as she transitions at home.

Hey, Genie,
You, as always, are in our thoughts. My mom said Papa's funeral was very dear. We hope that all goes well today as you bring Kyara home. Calder and Livvy and I are wondering if Skylar would like to come swim with us next week and have lunch? 678-364-8751.
