Kyara had a gastric transposition surgery to remove her esophagus and pull up her stomach on Monday, November 3, 2008. She went into cardiac arrest during an outpatient procedure on January 21, 2009. Due to the arrest, Kyara suffered a severe anoxic brain injury. Kyara grew her angel wings on March 19, 2010 and is now playing with the angels.

Intubated Again
Tonight has been rough. We went down stairs for a CT scan and Kyara started oozing bile again. She had bile coming out her nose and mouth. I suctioned her for over an hour and close to a half a liter of bile out of the back of her throat. She sounded at times like she was drowning in her bile. When the doctor came in I told him I was concerned about her airway. He agreed and decided to call in the pediatric surgeon. So, at 10:00 tonight, the pediatric surgeon came in and intubated her. She is heavily sedated and will be sleeping for a while. I see this as a positive move, she is so much more comfortable now. The doctors have a plan for the pneumotosis (the air in her colon wall), and she is getting some rest. Her heart rate is back down, she is not struggling to breathe, and her blood pressure is back down to a normal level. I am trying not to see this as a step backwards, but an important step that will help her improve. I pray this will lead to healing in the bowels, and that she can then concentrate on healing in her brain. I believe God knows what he is doing. He allowed the doctors to put her in PICU before she began having problems and she was in the right place for it to be taken care of quickly. Please pray for Kyara's recovery. She has been through alot!

We will continue to pray...of course. Remember that God is near to the broken hearted. He reminds us of that in Psalm 34:18. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think and pray for you guys. I hug my kids tighter each day because of your story and how you've allowed us to enter in with you. I know our time in Ann Arbor was short but you all have made a huge impact on our lives. We will continue to pray for Gods mercy and grace to be present with you each day!

Yes, Kyara has been through a lot, Genie... hopefully, these recent procedures will bring her some much needed comfort, and to you, some peace of mind too... We continue to pray for her recovery and well-being...
Heavenly Father, we ask that you show mercy and cover Kyara with your blanket of protection. We do not what the future holds, but we do know who holds the future. Give peace, comfort and rest to precious little Kyara. Give Genie and Gunars your divine intervention and show your healing powers before them. We pray blessings over this sweet family and ask that you give continued strength to each of them. In Jesus' precious, holy name we pray. Amen
Genie,,

Praying for your baby!
Your sweet little girl can now finally get some good rest and healing. We continue to keep Kyara and your family in our daily prayers. So good to hear that the doctors have a plan... when she's ready to come off the vent, I'm sure she'll be much more comfortable and make great strides with her therapy.
We love you guys!
Michelle

Genie, I just want you to know we have not stopped praying for Kyara and all of your family and the doctors and nurses. I have my mom and grandma and my grandma's church all praying for Kyara. She was touched all of our lives and we will pray God heals her quick and brings her back home where she belongs. I don't comment on everything you write but please know that I have been up to date with everything going on and we will all continue praying for Kyara. God bless you all.
